Responsible Sourcing & Sustainability
Kinsale Bay Food Company’s aim and focus is to build and develop a business and brand that is sustainable into the future. By focusing on our aims, we continue to make fundamental changes that will increase our commitment to the environment through best practices and processes in food production, supply chain, and recycling.
We source ingredients from local, Irish suppliers who practice sustainable methods. We purchase in bulk where possible to reduce transport costs to ourselves and the environment. Our beef and lamb are supplied by Origin Green members, our fish supplier approved by Bord Bia. Delivery of our products into retail stores is managed from a central distribution hub helping further reduce carbon emissions.
As a result of producing all products on-site at Little Island, we are a local employer with most of our employees traveling within close proximity of the workplace. We are committed to creating a safe clean and equal work environment for all who work at Kinsale Bay.
As a committed member of Repak, we put an Environmental management system in place within the business to focus on the environment and the sustainability of our business. We have since reduced our waste to landfill by 15% and increased our recycling by 20%. We consistently monitor changes in supplier packaging. We are committed to using packaging that is recyclable and reusable. Our soup tubs, pate tubs are reusable and recyclable. Our microwaveable foil trays and sleeves are recyclable we continue to work with our suppliers to find new and innovative ways to package our products to support our environmental ethos.
With the total re-build of our gluten-free production facility which included new more energy-efficient machinery coupled with improved procedures and processes we have reduced our electricity per unit cost over a sustained period by 10%, and water costs by 15% with both being continuously monitored.
